TENDENCIAS DEL PATENTAMIENTO EN AMÉRICA LATINA Y EL CARIBE. UNA APROXIMACIÓN DESDE CUBA. Patenting trends in Latin America and the Caribbean. An approach from Cuba

Resumen

El objetivo del artículo es identificar las principales tendencias en el patentamiento de
América Latina y el Caribe. Como marco analítico, se parte del rol económico de las
patentes  y  su  empleo  dentro  de  los  indicadores  de  resultado  tecnológico.  En  un
segundo momento se señalan algunos elementos clave del contexto global en el que
se desempeña la región. En tercer lugar se identifican las principales tendencias del
patentamiento  en  América  Latina  en  la  actualidad.  Por  último,  se  hace  una  breve
reflexión sobre el desempeño de Cuba en este ámbito.

Abstract
The objective of the article is to identify the main trends in patenting in Latin America
and the Caribbean. As an analytical framework, the article starts with an analysis of the
economic role of patents and their use within the indicators of technological results. In
a second moment, it points out some key elements of the global context in which the
region plays. Third, the main trends in patenting in Latin America are identified. Finally,
there is a brief reflection on Cuba's performance in this area.
